CARRIZOZO HARDWARE

401 Twelfth Street, Carrizozo, NM 88301

The Carrizozo Hardware Company, presently owned by Peter Wolfe, was built in 1917 by Henry Lutz. He established the Carrizozo Trading Company and sold dry goods, groceries, wagon covers and traded in hides and pelts. The old advertisement, painted on the side of the building in the early days, has been repainted to return us to the days when Carrizozo was a frontier ranching and railroad community.

In 1932, Frank English bought the building and changed the name to the Carrizozo Hardware Company. He established offices and apartments on the second floor where the town dentist, lawyer and other businesses operated.

Today Peter Wolfe is restoring the second floor which will once again be used for offices and apartments to house artists studios and a gallery. He is adding a lumber yard on the side of the building and has plans for a variety store across the street.

Carrizozo Hardware Company carries a large supply of hardware items, paints, gardening supplies, plumbing and electrical supplies as well as household items and cards and toys. They also carry cast iron wood burning stoves and heaters and specialize in "Lodge" cast iron cookware. Carrizozo Hardware is one of the few businesses in the country to carry ringer washing machines.

Stop by to see some of our other unusual merchandise and artwork. The store is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and Saturday from 8:00 am to noon.
