New Horizons Developmental Center is licensed as an intermediate care facility for adults who are developmentally disabled.  We provide 24-hour residential services for a maximum of 19 individuals in the small scenic town of Carrizozo, New Mexico.

Our residents range in age from the mid twenties to over eighty.  Several of our older residents are enjoying the benefits of retirement.  Younger residents have been successful in finding employment.

Community integration is an important aspect of New Horizons Developmental Center.  Our residents are regular customers at local restaurants and coffee houses.  They worship at nearby churches and take part in Senior Center events.  They borrow books and videos from local libraries and the Bookmobile.  They attend school athletic events and root for the home team.  They shop at discount stores, gift shops, and grocery stores. They visit art galleries, theaters, zoos and museums.  There is swimming, and picnicking available in the summer and bowling and skiing in the winter.  Participation in Special Olympics is also available for those who are interested.  Residents attend and participate in community events and celebrations throughout the year.

Maintaining physical fitness is of utmost importance.  We offer daily walks, exercise classes and indoor and outdoor games that promote fitness.  We also offer activities several times a week that stimulate the mind and encourage creativity.

Our program services are individualized and developed by residents, guardians/family members, a qualified Mental Retardation Professional, occupational and physical therapists, a speech therapist, developmental disability technicians, a mental health clinician, a registered nurse and a dietician.

In-house nurses and certified medication aides provide health care.  Medical and dental services are available at the Carrizozo Health Center as well as the Lincoln County Medical Center and various medical specialists.

We would enjoy hearing from you, or even better, to meet you and give you the grand tour.  Ask for Fran Altieri or Jenny Kelly.
